Did you know that a particle of lead 1/17 the size of a grain of salt is enough to do serious damage to the brain of a child?

This startling fact and the ease in which children are poisoned by lead is one of the key points that must be shared with our communities. This is part of the job of the Get the Lead Out! collaborative in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area. Get the Lead Out! supporters compiled a stack of information, booklets, research and facts that when stacked was about 2 1/2 feet tall. So how do you whittle that down into a four hour training class for nurses, clinical practitioners, doctors, social workers and family advocates?

We started with specific and measurable learning objectives and synthesized the content until all points were resolved. A workshop supported by a Microsoft PowerPoint™ presentation, attendee materials, poignant posters and colorful magnets were developed.

That was the easy part. The hard part?  Saving lives.
